Review: Maybelline Mega Plush Volum' Express mascara!

Mega Plush Lashes! I've yet to meet a girl online or offline who doesn't want great big long and thick lashes! For the majority of girls who wear make up having a good coat on the lashes seems to be a universal want. Maybelline has always been a brand I love going to for a solid waterproof mascara, especially concerning the types they release in Asia for the most part. One of my first favorite mascaras was their "the magnum volum' express' which has a dear place in my heart so I've given many of it's successors a try too!

I never go for anything else but the blackest shade! Too bad this formula was not waterproof as Maybelline tends to only release waterproof formulas when it comes to mascaras in singapore.

Packaging & Product!

Much like the majority of Maybelline mascaras this one is pretty and bright being turquoise with a metallic purple pink font. The size and design of this mascara is pretty much exactly like the rest from the "volum express" line of mascaras. I have no qualms as the tube is of average length, it's slightly thicker than those from Japanese brands but it's nothing bulky. The wand too is lovely. I really love how the bristles are dense and are of a graduating length therefore they really coat the lashes really well.

Much like other mascaras from Maybelline this mascara has a very wet formula when brand new. I found that I needed a little bit more time to allow the first coat to dry before a second coat in order to get the thickness I wanted. This mascara didn't add much length, nor did it hold up as well as other waterproof formulas from Maybelline but this did give nice volume when layered. I've used this also with a light layer of my holy grail kiss me heroine on top as a waterproof seal to keep it on all day and night.

Overall this mascara isn't too bad, I definitely get nice 'plush' looking lashes with two coats. My two issues is with the wetness of the formula and how I can't apply this quickly to get my ideal results. If you naturally have great lashes, a coat of this would be amazing but if you have very stick straight and fine lashes I'd avoid this formula.

Something to mention is that when I did wear this mascara alone on both the top and bottom lashes...I experienced smudging and flaking on the bottom which never ever happens to me as I always wear a waterproof formula. I also wear lots of powder all day long so take note for ladies who are oilier or who get watery eyes, don't use this on the bottom!

Paid: $21.90 SGD or about $16.20 USD

Recommend: Maybe, if you are okay with a wetter formula that takes more time to dry and do not need this to last more than 10 hours then this isn't too bad of a choice but if you need something to last through everything and anything skip this one.

Repurchase: Nope. this formula isn't one that I would buy again. I always want my mascaras to be waterproof and to be able to last up to 12 to 16 hours so although I get use out of this I don't intend of getting it again.

Bottom line: A decent mascara best for those who don't have oily skin or stick straight lashes. This mascara despite having a wet formula still builds up great and gives me plush lashes with extra time and work. For those who do like a natural lash look this would be great and if you are a fan of layer different mascaras this would be a good base mascara.

What's the most recent Maybelline mascara you've tried?
Do you like yours waterproof too?
Let me know!

Thank you!

  1. I have tried this mascara too, and I agree with you 100%. This is not a bad one, but just didn't cater my needs. A non waterproof mascara is a no go for my watery eyes..

  2. The mascara's effect is impressive but the price seems rather high for a drug store brand.

  3. I think your lashes look great :)
I have always thought that you have wonderful looking lashes :)
I have never been able to find this particular mascara in stores here in Vaasa (or Finland overall for that matter)
I am not a huge fan of waterproof mascara.. or I should say I WAS not a huge fan of waterproof mascara.
I always thought it was horrible to remove and I felt like I was causing damage to my lashes.
Then I found an amazing oil based remover and since then I have loved wearing waterproof :)
My most recent Maybelline mascara purchase was the Colossal Volum´ Express mascara. It is my #1 favorite mascara of all time... I decided to find a cheaper alternative that would be better or just as good and I found one in the Essence Plump NO! Clump mascara by Essence but ofcourse they had to go and discontinue the Plump NO! Clump one ;)
I am still doing the Big Mascara Battle series on my blog and even though I said I was not going to buy more mascaras while that continues I´m on the hunt for the best everyday mascara that I know will work when I need to run errands, go to class etc.. a mascara that I know will look good ;)

(sorry for a long comment) :D
