Review: Bobbi Brown's Basic Brush Collection!

Did someone say brushes? Make up brushes! I'm a huge fan of learning how to use new types of brushes for different types of make up. They make a huge difference in how products apply and can be needed in order to use certain products and textures.

This gorgeous Basic Brush Collection was purchased three years ago in Roma International Airport~!

Continue below for the review of the Bobbi Brown Basic Brush Collection!

Bobbi's Essentials Basic Brush Collection by Bobbi Brown

The brush bag is wonderful. A great size, almost all other make up brushes fit inside, so I use this to take brushes on holiday.
All six of the brushes inside...
The eyeshadow brush and eyeliner brush...natural and synthetic fiber

  • This eyeshadow brush has become my favorite brush for concentrating color on the lid and shading it all over. Its shape makes it great for placing shadow on the eyelid, even on a small lid space like mine. The softness of the bristles makes it so easy to pack on, get eyeshadow on the brush and blend out edges slightly.
  • The eyeliner brush is amazing. It is very firm but flexible and makes creating a thicker wing eyeliner very easy, the rounded edge helps when 'filling' in the wing after I first draw out where the outline will be. After using this so many times, with gel liner the brush is still in shape and very good condition.
Concealer and eyebrow brushes.
  • This concealer brush is very narrow and thin, it would apply liquid very well around the edge of the nose, mouth and near under the eyes but a shorter, paddle shaped one would be better at blending. I've been using this as a lip brush and not for concealer since I don't use any with a brush.
  • The eyebrow brush is slanted and very course, I think its synthetic. I haven't used this much at all as I don't do my eyebrows at all. I can't give much feedback on its performance however I think the bristles haven't been cut very well.
Multi- purpose face blender brush
  • This beautiful fluffy natural hair brush is very loose although thick. I use this for brushing off loose powder or buffing off excess blush or powder on my face. It's not as soft as synthetic fiber but it feels amazing and is multi-purpose, I'd only use this with powder face products.
Natural hair, its slightly course in texture but still quite fluffy.
"Old fashioned" paddle shaped foundation brush...synthetic fiber, great for liquids.

  • The traditional foundation paddle brush is very finely crafted, dense, sleek and very well shaped, I've used it a few times with liquid or to blend out liquid bases although 98% of the time I use my fingers! It's of great quality and because of its shape, it causes coverage to seem higher but the foundation doesn't truly become 'one' with the skin than if you use a buffing brush or your fingers. I think this is best when you need high coverage or are working on other people. I like clean fingers best.
Packaging & Product!

Overall these brushes are of high quality. I get the most use of the eyeshadow brush, eyeliner and face blender. The rest are touched rarely because of the other brushes I have or the types of products I use.

How these brushes looked are gorgoues, simple, glossy handled which keeps the letter in tact. Everything matches the 'Bobbi Brown' look of her make up packaging.

I think this is a good set, espescially the size of the brushes and bag as it can accomadate other brushes. I do think however you can buy better sets for less cost with more types of eye make up brushes for those who are more interesting in that. This kit has basics but when you start off, I don't think many people need a lip brush or eyebrow brush.

Labeling of the intended use of the brushes on one side...

Bobbi brown on the other. The handles of these brushes are made of wood and have a gloss finish over the lettering.
The size of the brushes in comparison to my small eyeshadow brush from skin food and MAC 217 blending brush.
Paid: Purchased in the International Airport in Roma (price unsure)

Sold on the Bobbi Brown website for $175 USD ($214 SGD)

Recommend: Only if you are interested in collecting/using bobbi brown products of if you will be using or want to use all the brushes included otherwise there are many more cheaper and more varied sets with more products!

Repurchase: No more brushes from them!

Bottom line: Pricey, although of mostly high quality and well crafted, this basic brushes can be purchased from other brands for cheaper.

  1. I have always wanted to try out something from Bobbi Brown (but it isn't available where I live). I have heard a lot about the gel liner from BB.

  3. Great post! Bobbi Brown brushes are legendary, so I'm surprised they're not mind-blowing! I was thinking about investing in some but Real Techniques and Ecotools are my favourites. :) xx

    1. I think in this line I'm not using a few and thats why I don't find it that amazing. I love ecotools and real techniques but I think RT is better in terms of eye brushes, more precise! I want some! :)

  4. I don't have any products from Bobbi Brown and I don't know why they always fail to catch my attention.. I just never feel interested to buy any Bobbi Brown make up mainly because of the not so fancy packaging compare to any other high end brands. I just prefer MAC and also MAC is more affordable ;)
However, I think this brush set is good for traveling, right?

  7. Wow that is a very expensive set! The only one that really appeals to me is the fluffy one :p I think I'll stick to my more affordable Real Techniques brushes ... though the Bobbi Brown would be a really amazing gift or splurge :)

  10. Wow, the brushes and its little pouch are adorable! The eyeshadow and eyeliner brush look great. I had always used my clean fingers too for applying foundation as it is easier and faster but since I got my Real Techniques buffing brush it has transformed me from fingers to the brush because it gives an amazing airbrushed finish!

    1. Yay! Nice to know I'm not the only one who prefers fingers! So much faster as well when its on yourself! I too have the RT buffing brush but for some reason I always stick to fingers! I should give it a go when I have an occasion! Thanks for reminding me!
