Rave Review: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Radiant Lipstick! (nude beige & fetish pink)

My first YSL lipsticks! Oh yes, that HYPE! That giant bubble of literally 99 out of 100 ladies saying that they love this formula and these lipsticks so much that I too felt that maybe it was worth trying since so many others have and did love them!

I don't often buy luxury make up as drugstore make up is already quite pricey here with eyeliners, eyeshadow quads and single blushes starting at $16 USD cheapest so when on holiday in Bangkok I grabbed this duty free travel duo of YSL's Rouge Volupte lipsticks! Check out my full Bangkok beauty haul here!

Continue below for my review!

I bought this at the duty free in Bangkok International Airport. I paid only 1,790 thai Baht which is $68 SGD so each would be about $34 SGD!
This travel exclusive duo comes with two shades 1 Nude Beige and 8 Fetish Pink. There were two sets of duos, the other had darker shades. I was in a rush and picked this one up!

Packaging & Product!

Luxurious, heavy and detailed is what I think of when I see their packaging for these lippies. I am one of the ladies who does like the gold packaging, I would've liked it if it wasn't in gold but the extra shine doesn't hurt especially when I rarely pick up high end pieces.

My favorite thing about these is the center band with the YSL logo and the matching color to the lipstick inside, I much prefer when it's easier to tell the color of the product inside and this is a smart way of doing so. The main concern of this packaging would be that it's quite heavy and finger marks are easily left on it, however they aren't points to take away from the quality of the lipstick!

Formula wise these lipsticks are just to me...WOW. First off, I suffer from always slightly dry and always peeling lips. I drink much more water than the average person and if I just get a bit dehydrated it takes me up to 3 or 4 days for my lips to return to 'normal' as they dry out like crazy. Hence it is always crucial that the lip products I use are moisturizing or just simply not drying.

The quality of these are fantastic for me, super silky and butter soft, these are so creamy and sit on the skin of the lips like a second layer of skin but a second soft and concealing layer that doesn't make dry lines anymore visible. The pigmentation of these are also bang on and are very bold and full coverage.

Due to how moist and buttery these are, they don't last the longest time although when they begin to wear off it's super even and not very visible which is incredibly impressive. I had no qualms about reapplying and touching up as I much rather also be touching up than to have nasty dried up bits and uneven product at the end of a long day.

These two shades were slightly unexpected, as I picked this kit up in a rush and didn't get the chance to swatch both shades although there were testers. There was another kit with two darker shades but I thought I needed to start getting into pinks. In the end the nude is lovely but I really need to pair it with a darker or lined eye for it to look better on my skin and the bright pink needs a neutral eye look!

Shade 1 Nude Beige is a very pinky toned nudey shade, it looks quite wearable in my swatch but on my lips it's very pale.

Shade 8 Fetish Pink is a bold barbie pink that's not what I'm used to although I'm sure with a simple eye it'd be beautiful!

My bare lips! Super pigmented and very rose toned!
YSL Rouge Volupte Radiant Lipstick in Shade 1 Nude Beige. For most it's the perfect nude but for me it's a tad too pale and makes me look a bit ashy.
Paler shades like this tend to make my slightly yellow teeth more yellow!
YSL Rouge Volupte Radiant Lipstick in shade 8 Fetish Pink, it's a true bold barbie hot pink. I like that it's a deep barbie pink shade. I have nothing like this!
See how deeper shades don't make the teeth as yellow looking?

Despite both shades being not exactly shades I'm familiar with, the textures and quality is so amazing! I completely get the hype and will be buying more!
Paid: 2 for 1790 Thai Baht or about $68 SGD/ $54 USD

Recommend: Yes! Holy cow, the formula of these are unbelievable smooth, skin like on the lips and just so damn comfortable. Especially for me as I've got always dry and peely lips!

Repurchase: Yes! Actually I've already purchased myself another shade as I'm writing up this review! The formula is just amazing especially if you NEED moisture in your lip products!

Bottom line: A luxury lip item that's still in my reach, I do find the gold packaging very pretty especially with the color matching band on the tube. I like the weight of the product and how amazing the formula is especially for someone like myself with super peely and drier lips. I'd totally recommend these although keep in mind that the lasting power is not the best as it is a super super slippery formula!

Do you own any of the YSL rouge volupte lipsticks?
What shade would you pick up?
Let me know!

Thank you!

  6. You look stunning on these two lipsticks! I only own one from the formula, but I hope to get more! They are just SO expensive... these cost more than 2 Mac Lipsticks (which is is one of my favorite lipstick formula)!

  16. Oh my goodness, these sound so amazing. I LOVE when brands do travel size/combination packages. Especially expensive brands like YSL! Great review - I'm definitely going to be swatching these next time I'm in store!

  17. I don't have any YSL lippies (I don't really wear lipstick) but THE PACKAGING IS AMAZING. I've been wanting to pick one up for my mom for the longest time now, but realistically, it's one expensive splurge and there are more practical things to buy for her, such as high end sunscreens. Shade 1 is gorgeous, and I love the full face look (the first photo) you did with the lipsticks!
