Review: Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick in 01 Fresh!

Clear Smooth BB Stick! For those who live in hot and humid weather all year round it can sometime be quite a pain to apply foundation when there's a high chance of it largely melting off through the day. BB creams and BB base products have become more common and popular as time has passed and is quite favored in Asia as the Asian types of BB creams tend to be very long lasting through the weather here. Considering stick foundations are known for being quick, easy to use and tend to have heavier coverage,  this product is the combination of BB formula and stick foundation!

Packaging & Product!
For those familiar the Clear Smooth range of products has been available in Singapore for years. I believe this range is mostly exclusive to Asia and it's mostly foundation/base type products. They've been selling different types of powders from this range for a long time but I'd never seen any liquid foundations or other types of bases. I was really excited when I had swatched this and really liked how it felt on the hand. This line has a simple clean look with a baby turqoise color scheme. The packaging is very practical and easy to use. Like the majority of products from Maybelline in Asia, this does not come in any box, it's simply wrapped up in double layers of shrink plastic with the ingredients list printed on the first layer.

This BB stick product is made to be like a stick foundation. There are 3 shades for this product, this is the lightest and most pink toned shade. I had wanted to get the darker and yellowed toned one but it was completely sold out. On first touch, this product melts easily when touched with the fingers. It spreads very easily on the skin and has a slight sticky feeling.

Upon application, the BB stick blends out well and easily, best with a dense rounded top brush or with fingers. Coverage is medium to full coverage and you are able to apply a second layer on certain areas if needed but it's not best as this texture can feel heavy and cakey if more is applied and especially if you set with foundation powder like I do. The shade I got was Fresh, it's best for those NW15-20 although I'm NC20 but make this work with a layer of powder that matches my complexion best.

After, in the process of applying Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick in 01 Fresh!

Before and after wearing Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick in 01 Fresh! This shade was a touch pink and light for me. This foundation stayed well on my skin after being set with powder however it did not feel very comfortable as I could feel it on the corners of my nose after some hours. I much prefer other textures when it comes to cream/mousse foundations. I think this would be best for those who have normal to slightly oily skin and who want something quick and easy but aren't too concerned about long wear time.

Paid: $17.90 SGD or about $13 USD

I purchased this while in Bangkok at the beauty section of the supermarket, pricing was slightly cheaper than in Singapore.

Recommend: No, although this product has great coverage and would be pretty okay if you can find a color match within the 3 shades and have a slightly oily to normal skin type this is worth missing. Nothing is more annoying that being able to 'feel' the foundation on your face and it really seemed like I could feel this on despite using a thin layer.

Repurchase: No, considering that I've got so many bases to work with and this one was particularly a let down with its texture there is no way I'd buy this again.

Bottom line: This product is a bit of a novelty trying to combine a stick foundation with a BB product. It's not a bad idea and definitely could be formulated well but unfortunately this one isn't and I would much rather you try other foundations from Maybelline.

What do you think of this BB stick foundation?
Would you like to try something like this?

  5. Aw, thanks for the review- I hate that feeling of knowing your foundation is just stuck on top of the skin. But you do look amazing though!Your skin has a nice glow to it!
