Rave Review: Maybelline the Rocket Volum' Express mascara!

Some Rocket for you? For those who have followed my beauty products reviews for a while I'm an avid mascara user and lover. I've got super thin asian lashes and a good mascara is a must! I only ever wear waterproof formulation as I wouldn't risk anything that washes off easily since the humidity and heat is through the roof in Singapore!

This mascara from Maybelline has actually been in our stores selling for about two years but I held off waiting for the dark and light blue tube which I saw in reviews to be the waterproof version.

Drugstores in Singapore typically only brings in the waterproof versions of mascaras but they didn't with this one. Finally in Bangkok's duty free some months ago I decided to get it despite it not being waterproof and I've been kicking myself since for not getting it sooner!

Packaging & Product!

Let me begin by saying I've always been a fan of maybelline mascaras or the majority that have been sold here in South East Asia. I've owned and loved the Magnum, the Falsies and the Big Eyes mascaras and this mascara is now my second favorite behind the Magnum. I really liked the packaging of this tube the moment I saw it. The pink and blue as well as the blue and light blue (for the waterproof) are both extremely fun looking just like all of their other mascaras! Whenever I think Maybelline mascaras I think colorful fun colored tubes and this was no different. Also the details like the rocket 'flame' on the tube and the design of the brush on the back of tube are really neat touches.

Much like the hype and love around how Max Factor has a mascara that is considered a dupe in formula and brush design to the very famous Covergirl Lash Blast this mascara also resembles the same brush design which got me excited. For years I have been a fan of asian brand bristle brushes instead of plastic comb wands as I found that they gave me best volume as plastic combs didn't do so.

After waiting more than a year for the waterproof I'm so glad I decided to buy this in Bangkok. The brush is fantastic, perfect at keeping the lashes defined and great at repeat combing through without clumping. The formulation also is just right when freshly opened, it's not too thin and not thick which makes it great for giving my lashes a good coating, a bit more length, natural volume and separation!

I found application of this mascara so straightforward and clean! There was almost no accidental smudging on my lid from excess product on the brush and no transfer of wet mascara to below my eyes because the product was still so wet after application! Another huge plus which was totally to my pleasant surprise is that this formulation lasted just as well as waterproof formulas! I didn't find any smudging, flaking or disintegrating throughout the hot humid weather here when wearing this!

Overall this mascara is just fantastic from the moment it's opened! It's also a great mascara as a base coat for layering another more volumizing mascara on top of it. On it's own, expect definition, a bit of added length and volume. It's a natural looking mascara but not so natural that it seems like there's nothing.

Paid: 280 Thai baht or about $11.20 SGD

(This is crazy because this mascara and similar ones retail for $18-22 SGD in Singapore)

Recommend: YES. This mascara is fantastic on my small thin asian lashes! I get a decent amount of volume, some length and lots of definition which always makes for gorgeous wide awake clean looking lashes!

Repurchase: YES. It's rare that I would repurchase any other mascara than my holy grail from Kiss Me Heroine but this works so well by itself as well as together with other mascaras!

Bottom line: Another great mascara from Maybelline, it's great for smaller thinner lashes as the brush keeps lashes defined and the formula builds nicely without being clumpy or too wet!

  3. I love this mascara as well! For the longest time I only stuck to the Maybelline The Falsies, but realized this was also a good option as well, it sucks how they didn't carry the waterproof formula, but i guess the non-waterproof one is proven to be just as worthy and surprisingly not disappointing! :D

  13. Somehow Maybelline mascaras don't work on me. When I was still in uni and the initial part of my working life, I love Maybelline mascaras but all of them would have transfer below my lids in our crazy weather no matter whether they are waterproof. I figured out that waterproof isn't oil proof and I have oily lids. And then I decided to give other brands of water proof mascara a try and have fallen in love with a few Japanese brands ones and I've not turned back to Maybelline ever since then. I'm scared to try them out and those big fat tubes mascara have never worked on me too. I'm glad that this works so well on you! You've found a keeper!

  14. YES. JOIN THE ROCKET BANDWAGON. I think what makes this mascara so great (in my opinion) is the brush. It does a really good job at separating and lengthening! I think the only 'con' of this mascara though, is that I don't find it to be as black as my other Maybelline mascaras.
