Review: Laneige Pore Control BB Cushion in shade 13 True Beige!

Pore Control BB Cushion! For those who follow and have tried the trend of BB and now CC cushions I am far far behind in the game. I remember swatching the original first BB cushion from Laneige about 2 years ago or so and I didn't like it. It felt like a thicker tinted moisturizer and the bulky packaging was such a turn off to me. However as time passes and I started seeing reviews I realized that I totally needed to try at least the most raved about cushions!

After so many reviews from different girls I settled on purchasing this from Laneige from the website Qoo10 from an amazing seller called "Best Price Breezy". They sell products from the most popular and very sought after asian brands, plenty of korean brands especially. The compact, refill, extra refill and sponge all were on a sale price I just couldn't pass and hence I seized the moment!

Packaging!

Bulky but acceptable is what I think of when I see cushion packaging. I've always found cushion compacts to be very thick but now I realize it is nowhere as heavy or bulky or excessive than bringing a bottle of foundation as one cushion refill is 15ml, not 30ml (standard amount of foundation). Since I've had this, I really do love Laneige's design. So clean, simple and I think of clean spring water with their clear blue color. One plus point to consider is that this compact can fall, drop be thrown and your foundation isn't going to go anywhere! The compact is sturdy and there's no way the foundation will come pouring out even if the compact opens up. Therefore cushions are great for travel!

The refill section of the compact which holds the bb cream soaked sponge can be popped out of the compact (I forgot to photograph the compact without the refill). Hence you could buy the refill for other cushions and use the laneige case as long as they fit. I also really love how there's a full mirror on the inside of the cover which I really appreciate! Another thing which has been common with asian powders since before cushions is the cover over the product for a puff to rest. Overall the packaging is really great for what it is and I can't find any flaws except that the compact is a bit thick.

Laneige Pore Control BB Cushion in shade 13 True Beige! Brand new, the cushion soaked with the bb cream is sealed with a foil plastic that you need to peel away!
Close up of Laneige Pore Control BB Cushion in shade 13 True Beige! The sponge soaked with the BB cushion looks like a piece of toast! If you poke around the edge of the sponge, you can see the sponge's edge as it's not stuck down onto the refill.
Laneige BB cushion sponge! I always wondered what was so special about this sponge but in person you can see that the texture of the sponge is so super fine that product just sits on the surface and doesn't soak in like normal sponges.
Applying the BB with the included sponge, the blue side really is unique and it seriously does a great job at 'patting' the product onto the skin giving a natural finish. However I realize that I prefer using my fingers and then the sponge or a brush for further blending after a few uses.
Swatches of Laneige Pore Control BB Cushion in shade 13 True Beige! This is the lightest shade which is a fantastic pale yellow toned shade which could be consider neutral.
My bare face! I have slight pigmentation on my cheekbones and around my mouth. I also have slightly darker under eyes!

Product!

By now this Laneige BB Cushion has been reviewed so many times! I'll be straight to the point and try not to ramble! The consistency of this BB is more fluid than the thick creamy texture of Lioele's and more like BB creams from Skin79. There's a lightly sweet sunscreen type scent and the product blends out and dries very evenly without any streaking. The color of shade 13 True Beige is a pale yellow or could be a neutral light shade which would suit even those who are as pale as MAC NC 10-15 but also can work on those with an NC20-25 skintone like myself but no darker.

On my first few applications with the sponge, I felt that although the application seemed flawless the product didn't blend into my skin as well as applying first with my fingers. I don't like the feeling of the product 'sitting' on my skin although this BB isn't heavy feeling at all. The finish looks natural in the sense that that's a glow to the skin. It's slightly dewy to the touch and I powdered it like I do all my bases before doing the rest of my make up.

I find that this product gives me a medium coverage which evens out my skintone very nicely although it's a bit light. However it doesn't improve the darkness under my eyes and I need another product for that area. Set with a powder this BB really lasts just as well as my other foundations and looks really good by the end of the day. My face make up always will wear off around my nose, mouth and chin area first but with this although there was slight wear, it wasn't anything that required more than a touch up of powder.

Overall I'm very satisfied by my experience so far with this BB cushion. If you apply this for the first time and feel that it doesn't sit properly or wears off too fast, apply it differently and try different powders to set it. Now that I've found the way to make this work best for me it's really something that I look forward to using.

The lightest foundation that I had owned was from ZA which is just right for my skintone right now as I'm at the lightest I've been for years. This Laneige BB however is  touch more pale and gives me that 'brightened' look. Both the Bourjois foundation and Lioele also match me amazingly although if I had to pick the best match it would be Bourjois.

Paid: $36.90 SGD plus $0.90 shipping (Regular retail price in Singapore for this set is $59)

Recommend:Yes, if you're someone who is keen on trying a really good BB cushion I'd totally recommend this. Although it's my first type of cushion I'd totally recommend this to those who don't need much coverage and who have normal to a oilier skin type.

Repurchase: No, I will not repurchase this as I already have a refill and have lots of foundations to work through! I'd totally love to try other cushion foundations in the future!

Bottom line: A seriously 'hard working' bb cushion. The face that it lasts and looks so great at the end of the day despite the humid, hot weather in Singapore and my slightly oilier skin makes this something ladies should check out! Do order online, it's cheaper where ever you live!

  1. I've always read so much about BB cushion but I don't think I would e good at using them well. Like when you talked about the blue spong and how you preferred to use your fingers to blend after a few usage, I know I would be just like that too. The before and after certainly has significant difference on you, dear. And I've already right click and opened that seller's link in a new tab to check out what he/she has.

Hey Sharlynn. Yes, that's one major thing I realised about you putting the questions all together! Really a good idea to get people to do the tags. Often, I found it very difficult to find the questions to copy and paste and that sort of puts me off doing tags too. So thanx to your ingenious idea! Ah yes, you see even for one growing her hair out long, still gotta trim to keep it in good shape. Hence, I can't imagine myself never to be able to cut again.

  2. The Snow BB Cushion Cream from Laneige is my one of my HG base product now.. I didn't really like it at the beginning but it slowly grew on me.. I've used up maybe 4-5 refills in a year xD
This one sounds good as well! The finish is very natural on your skin, very skin like.. I actually really like the given sponge, I find it very nice to apply foundation or concealer ^^

  4. Hi Sharlynn,

The online price of this product is awesome! Thanks for mentioning this website! I see the point that you made about the cushion packaging. To me, I think it is good that the product is sturdier with the extra packaging because I really don't mind carry a little more weight for its extra durability :D

  5. haha the first thing i zoned in on was for color match. this must just be a little too light for me. i don't usually go for the 'just a touch lighter to give brightness' sort of thing. i like my foundations exactly the shade of my skin

  6. I want to try this cushion, but I'm trying to cut down on makeup and foundation hahaha The only cushion foundation I've tried is from Etude House, but even their darkest color is wayyy too light for me. I now use it for a highlight effect, but the formula makes me oily pretty fast so I don't like use it that often.

  8. This one looks good - I wonder if it is the same line that we get here in the US? Although we only get 3 shades, I think, so maybe not.

  12. Always been so curious about these "cushion" type products, it seems like more and more products are coming out in this packaging! I don't think I could just buy this blindly on the internet, but maybe next time I'm in hk, i'll stop by a counter/store and get them to try it on me!
