Review: Sleek New Skin Revive SPF 15 foundation in 983 Barley!

Make mine Barley! Having tried quite a few products from sleek in the last half year I decided to pick this up in my second order from Sleek! Unfortunately this second batch was not as good as the first! The creme to powder foundation that used to match me is now way too dark and so I picked this lighter shade!

Continue below for the review!

Although sleek packages their products very well with bubble wrap this came cracked! The eyeliner in the same order was broken!
Packaging & Product!

Sleek's New Skin Revive foundation comes in a frosted glass bottle, it's very simple and plain and nothing as sleek as their other products. Unfortunately mine arrived with a cracked plastic cap which still isn't as bad as it could've been. I don't mind the packaging as it is practical and the glass gives the product a nice weight.

At first impression this foundation really seemed quite nice and that it would live up to expectations. Swatched it looks to be medium with buildable coverage as it is stated on Sleek's website to be medium to full. I find on the arm definitely buildable but on my slightly oilier skin, no matter two or three layers worth of foundation this did not build up even layers that covered my freckles and pink areas.

This shade is meant for "light skintones with warm yellow undertones" which is absolutely spot on, in terms of matching shades this is beautiful and I think they make foundations with great skin matching abilities.

I find the foundation to be on the thinner side of consistency and tended to be easy to over blend away before it set. There is silicone in this foundation which is meant to enhance the smooth look on the skin. I found that on the face this does look very natural however I did not have much luck the few times I tried to wear it.

No matter what foundation, I always set with powder unless it's a matte finish, this is not a matte finish and hence I set it with powder. The shade looks perfect on me, I found one layer too sheer so I did another and set it but after only half an hour it got really dark looking on me!

I however tried again another time with a different powder, much thinner, a loose powder with no color and yet it oxidized again! And both times I did not leave the house or get warm!
The swatch of this shade Barley matches my skin very well, it's a bit more on the beige than yellow side but has an amazing glowy natural finish.
Foundation comparison: L'oreal true match in R2, Sleek New Skin Revive Barley and Bourjois Healthy Mix in 52 (Bourjois is the closest match to my face)

My bare cheek! With pink areas and freckles!
After one layer of foundation! It's very natural looking but I would like more coverage!
One layer of Sleek's New Skin Revive foundation! It's very natural looking however more layers are needed to cover red areas and light freckles!
This is NOT of Sleek New Skin Revive but is EXACTLY what it looked it when I wiped my face after half an hour!
Paid: $9.99 USD or about $12.50 SGD

Recommend: NO! Unless your skin maybe is on the drier side, you don't powder or you need light coverage otherwise this may not work very well for you. Even a thin layer is barely enough to even out the skin tone and it oxidizes so much!

Repurchase: Nope. I threw this away after attempting to use it at least four separate times!

Bottom line: It's too unfortunate that this foundation did not work out for me! I think it's more of my skin not being suitable for the formulation than the product being that horrible. Too thin, not enough coverage and most importantly oxidizing too much, not for me!

Have you tried this foundation from Sleek?
Have you had foundation oxidize?
let me know!

Feel free to comment! Thank you!

  1. Oh nooo.. I hate it when foundation doesn't have enough coverage, even worse when it becomes patchy.. you have actually very clear skin to begin with I think!!

  4. Thanks for the review - and being honest. I find a lot of beauty bloggers rave products they don't really like themselves. I would hate the packaging and the thin consistency. A pass for me, for sure.
