Review: theBalm Mary-lou Manizer aka "the luminzer"! (highlight)

Raved about by certain youtube beauty gurus and make up artist such as Wayne from Gossmakeupartist I got my hands on this a few months ago!

I'm very happy to say theBalm is avaliable in Singapore at certain Sasa outlets! And they are selling at exchange rate prices...not inflated like crazy like drugstore brands!

However recently it looks as if they are getting rid of the products left in stores! Maybe pulling out of Singapore? I don't know but if that's the case I've got to grab a few more things!

Check out my theBalm haul from last year!

Continue below for the review and swatches!

Note: Similar to youtuber xclosetoreal who I watch, exactly like her experience the entire pan fell out of the compact! A small piece chipped off because of it!

Product!

This highlighter is of a champagne golden type shade, not pink of bronzed hued at all! It'd work best on fair to tanned skin tones and I think will look best if you have yellow undertones.

It's a very pigmented highlighter, just a touch and you get more than enough. The powder is very finely milled, no big chunks of shimmer/glitter!

I use it on the tops of my cheek bones and sometimes if I applied too strong a blush I use this and lightly brush over and the color is immediately toned down. There's nothing too fantastic about this product, although it can look very pretty on a lightly made up face.

It does give the cheeks a luminosity without looking shiny but for its price I wouldn't get it unless you plan on using it everyday and can afford it. I'd get highlighters from other asian brands avalible at Sasa that are just as good or better and much more affordable.

The packaging of course is so collectable and the compact form is handy although the entire disc fell out once, causing a piece to chip off! And I'm not the first to have experienced it! Nay for that!

Looks like a biscuit doesn't it?

Swatched and blended: theBalm Mary-lou Manizer aka the lumizer
Paid: $36.90 SGD ($30 USD)

Recommend: Yes if you can afford it, love the packaging and will be using it often! Otherwise get something less pricey! It's not holy grail in my opinion.

Repurchase: Nope, but I'm eyeing other theBalm products! They are so lovely!

Bottom Line: It's not a must have product, I'd rather spend $30 on foundation. It's nice and collectable but it's going to take a while to use. There are so many more affordable brands to get highlighters from in Singapore!

Do you use highlighters? Tried any theBalm products?

    1. If you get a chance to swatch, do that first! Otherwise although it's raved about, I don't find it so amazing. It is luminous but the packaging is so pretty for the eye more than anything else. It works lovely on our fairer skin...but i think there are lots of alternatives too:p

  3. I have this after buying into all the hype (including gossmakeupartist's rave on YouTube, lol). I like it, it shows up better on me than Jemma Kidd's radiance creme, though like you I wouldn't consider it HG status and there are definitely cheaper alternatives out there. I appreciate the texture of it, it is finely milled and glides onto the skin, but I'm not completely sold with the colour. Bit too yellow for my liking? It does produce instant glowy luminiscence dusted onto the cheekbones though.

    1. Hehe...so I am definitely not the only one! LOVE WAYNE from gossmakeupartist! <3 Yep, not HG but very pretty indeed. It is quite yellow, I really want to try something more pink hued myself. Thanks for visiting! :))

  4. The color is so pretty! It's a shame the pan fell out though...I always get so sad when my products fall apart on me too. I love The Balm's vintage-style packaging ^^

Thanks so much for following my blog and leaving so many sweet comments! I hope you will visit again soon :D

  6. Hi could you please advise other highlighters (your HG) or something that is more affordable (value for money)? Thank you!

    1. Sorry but I don't use any highlighters on my face. This one I use as my eyeshadow highlight. I usually use blushes with a satin finish or with slight shimmer so I have no need for a highlighter. I sometimes use a pale cream shade from eyeshadow palettes I have lightly on my face. As long as the shade has very fine shimmer/sheen it can work on the cheekbones!
